Enabling Original Sound on Zoom
Having piano lessons (or recitals) on Zoom is far from ideal, but we certainly appreciate the option during this unsettling time when in-person gatherings are not possible. One of the biggest challenges with online lessons has been the quality of the sound. Fortunately, Zoom now allows users to preserve the sound from your microphone by enabling ORIGINAL SOUND and HIGH FIDELITY MUSIC MODE which will dramatically improve the sound quality of your piano through Zoom! Here are step-by-step instructions for enabling Original Sound and High Fidelity Music Mode on your device:
For Computers
1. Open your Zoom app, as though you were going to join a meeting, and go to the Home screen.
2. Click the Settings icon (looks like a gear, upper right corner).
3. In the left column, click Audio.
4. Under the Suppress Background Noise heading, select Auto.
5. Under the Music and Professional Audio heading, check "Show in-meeting option to Turn on Original Sound."
6. Also check High fidelity music mode.
For Tablet / iPad
1. Open your Zoom app, as though you were going to join a meeting, and go to the Home screen.
2. Click the Settings icon (looks like a gear, bottom left corner).
3. Click Meetings.
4. Enable Use Original Sound (near the bottom of the list)
IMPORTANT: Once this set-up has been done, you should be able to enable or disable Original Sound in every meeting, but you will need to actually click it at the beginning of each piano lesson.
On a computer, as soon as our Zoom meeting begins you will see Turn on Original Sound in the top left corner of your screen. Just click it when we begin our meeting and that's all you have to do.
On an iPad/tablet, as soon as our Zoom meeting begins just click the three dots at the top right of your screen (More) and select Enable Original Sound.

How to Change Your Name on Zoom
When attending a piano lesson or recital on Zoom it is important to identify yourself accurately so that the host can be sure it is safe to admit you to the meeting. Most of the time this happens automatically, but occasionally Zoom appears to decide it has other ideas... Here are step-by-step instructions for renaming yourself during a Zoom meeting:
For Computers:
1. Once you have been admitted to the meeting, click Participants (bottom middle of screen).
2. Find your name in the list and hover your cursor over your name.
3. Click More, then Rename.
4. Type your new name as you wish it to appear.
For iPad/Tablet:
1. Once you have been admitted to the meeting, click Participants (top right of screen).
2. Find your name in the list and click it.
3. Click Rename.
4. Type your new name as you wish it to appear.
